Senioritis. It does exist.
One of the biggest, constant, struggles I have encountered
throughout this semester is the senioritis. Anyone who has been in high school,
or in college, can attest that senioritis is a thing, and boy do I have it.
With my graduation date coming at the end of the semester, I am having more and
more trouble taking my tasks day-by-day and I am constantly looking into the
post-college future, fearfully. It is crazy to think that when we leave for
winter break, I will not be coming back to ASU…at least for now. After spending
the last 5ish years of my life consistently in college, it’ll be time for me to
take that next step into adulthood, and that is a scary thought. As much as I
know I am prepared, I am still facing the “unknown” of what I will be doing and
where I will be. While trying to focus on the challenges and tasks of today, I
constantly finding myself wondering about the unknowns I will be facing in the
very short future.

Devinn I can totally relate to your senioritis! I won't be graduating until next semester but I am already looking into what the future might hold for me! I know I should just concentrate on the present but it can be difficult sometimes!! Thank you for your post it's nice to know I'm not the only only out there experiencing senioritis.
ReplyDeleteDevinn,
ReplyDeleteThere is no doubt that senioritis exists! Like Talya, I graduate next semester as well with my Master'sl and senioritis has already set in. I think it may be even worst now because I recently landed a job that I am beyond excited to start in December. Since I am about to start my career, I am at that point where I just want school to be over! I graduated with my Bachelor's degree in 2014 and I thought senioritis was bad then, but its at an all time high now! I really do enjoy learning, hence all the education, but I think it has just finally hit me that I have been in school for way too long and that it's time to make some money (especially to pay down student loans...). Although senioritis makes us procrastinate like crazy, I think in a sense it's actually kind of fun. It's exciting because we finally see the light at the end of the tunnel and we know we will be able to take all that we learned and finally use it in the real world.
Devinn,
ReplyDeleteI completely agree with your observation regarding incoming graduation. It has been very difficult managing my current tasks, planning for the short-term future responsibilities, and planning even for the long-term goals. I graduate in May and just finished registering for my last couple classes, but I am already waiting for my acceptance/rejection into the Peace Corps (would leave in June) and planning a backup to that plan to teach in Korea, leaving in July; concurrently, I need to be concerned about upcoming final projects and assignments that are due in a couple weeks - but I am just so excited.
Hi Devin,
ReplyDeleteI feel you! This is also my final semester of the MPA and I can definitely say that I'm suffering from senioritis as well. Thankfully, there are just four more weeks of the semester left! While I am glad to be done and to enter the working world, I am sure I will miss school. The MPA has been my third time back. Hopefully the final too. While I do look forward to continued education as I build my career, I doubt I'll be doing another Master's or PhD for that matter. Good luck with last few weeks!
Devinn you and me both. Although because I didn't graduate from high school so I didn't have it then, I think I have it double the normal rate this time around to make up for high school. Being an honor student I am use to being bit of an over achiever and being on top of my stuff. But man this senioritis is kicking my butt. I find myself so many times just being don with everything and ready to graduate. I am so over home work and late nights. I am ready for it to be done. And to think I will be starting over pretty much when I start MPA school next Fall. (WHY DO I DO THIS TO MYSELF) oh well I know it will be worth it n the end! Keep up the good work we can get through this!
