Working in Teams
One of the most profound experiences of this internship has been the ability to work in teams and groups. Going through school and college, I absolutely hated group work. Having to rely on others to do their fair share (which often didn't happen), arrange meeting times, and oftentimes create/present a presentation always created more headaches than it seemed to be worth. However, throughout my internship, I have had the chance to work with others on quite a few different projects and this has completely changed my outlook on this type of work. I have found that everyone is taking the projects seriously and actually feels some sort of investment in the project at hand. Suddenly, everyone is doing their share of work and it is actually hard for me to keep up at times. I am a person that very much relies on human interaction and talking with people, but group project environment were absolutely awful. But now, after working with others who are committed to a cause and truly get excited about what they are doing because it means something to them, and isn't just a grade, has given me a lot more appreciation and excitement for working in groups and teams in the future. I just hope moving forward with whatever path I choose that I continue to work with people who are doing the job because it means more to them than just a paycheck. Only time will tell.

Devinn,
ReplyDeleteI agree with your observation as I despise doing group work in college, but enjoy participating in groups outside the educational space. I am unsure of why group members in college treat is as a low or non-responsibility task when their grade is at risk; however, my group projects outside of college have generally been positive. Yes, there are people who slack off - but they are usually not forced to be there - then again, they are not forced to be at college as well. I suggest finding people who are passionate about what they are
Devinn,
ReplyDeleteGreat post to share. I completely agree with you that the best experiance on the internship has been the ability to work in teams and groupd. I also never liked working with teams and groups because I has never been easy to get other to do their fair share. In my internship I had an opportunity to work with different people and I also worked on different project and I didn't had any probelms with it. I have learned that working with others is great thing and it's part of life.
Thank You for sharing.
Hi Devinn,
ReplyDeleteI can empathize about how you feel in regards to working in groups before your internship experience. It can be frustrating to work in groups as people usually are not doing their fair share, etc. I have been there and have had many terrible groups. However, like yourself, my internship experience showed me what it means to work on a team. Everyone truly cared and worked together to make things happen. It is more than the paycheck. It is about the outcome we get out of the lives we help make an impact on. Thank you for sharing your experience, I enjoyed reading this.

Devinn,
ReplyDeleteI couldn't agree with you more. I hate group projects when it comes to school work. I usually end up doing 99% of the project on my own. It is amazing the difference in work place group project and school group projects. It is nice to know there is a difference and you have teammate you can count on for help!
